Course 1. An Introduction to Conceptual and Numerical Groundwater Modeling using Visual MODFLOW and Hydro GeoBuilder

11 September 2010, 1 day, Krakow

Total number of hours: 10 h

Price: 315 EUR

Min.-Max. number of participants: 15-20

Teaching staff: Monica Gaertner, Data Management Technical Advisor, Schlumberger Water Services

Content:This course introduces the simulation of groundwater flow and contaminant transport, with the state-of-the-art software Visual Modflow. For the preparation of the conceptual models the new software Hydro GeoBuilder is applied.

Course 2. Hydrogeological Field Methods and Standards

11-12 September 2010, 2 days, Krakow

Total number of hours: 13.5h

Price: 175 EUR (IAH Members); 225 EUR (non-Members); Students 125 EUR

Min.-Max. number of participants: 15-20

Teaching staff:John E. Moore, Retired US Geological Survey, Professor Metro State College Denver CO USA, carried out over 25 courses of Field Hydrogeology all over the world, author of the book with the same title
Joel Carrillo, Prof. at the Universidade Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, member of the Academy of Science Mexico and Researcher and Reviewer of CONACyT.
Uwe Tröger, Full professor at the Technical University of Berlin, 35 years of practical and academic experience.

Content: The two day course will include theoretical and practical field hydrogeology. The course presents standards methods, and guides for planning and undertaking hydrogeologic field investigations. The course emphasizes conceptual models, water level measurements, well inventory, well drilling, aquifer tests, sample collection, project planning, and report preparation. Major source references for this course are U.S. Geological Survey Techniques for Water-Resources Investigation and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards guides for soil, rock, and groundwater. Pumping test and sampling will be demonstrated in wells on the campus. EU standards and German sampling advises will also be integrated in the course. A component of the course is also the preparation and writing of the report. The course is to be attended by geoscientists, engineers, hydrogeologists, water engineers, geochemists, environmental professionals, and water well drillers.

Course 3. Groundwater modeling with FEFLOW

18-21 September 2010, 4 days, Krakow

Total number of hours: 24h

Price: 800 EUR

Min.-Max. number of participants:15-20

Teaching staff:Peter Schätzl, Product Manager FEFLOW, Senior Groundwater Modeller, DHI-WASY GmbH
Julia Mayer, FEFLOW Services, DHI-WASY GmbH

Content: This course introduces the simulation of groundwater flow, contaminant transport, and heat transport with the state-of-the-art finite-element software FEFLOW. All features and concepts of the software are presented based on hands-on examples, ranging from pre-processing via the simulation to post-processing and results evaluation. For the practical part, the brand-new user interface of FEFLOW 6 with its outstanding and efficient graphical tools is applied. Presentations of application examples for regional water management modeling, density-dependent flow, reactive transport, and geothermal modeling complete the course.
